Richmond Green Practice
In-person Career Development Coaching and Consultancy for Writers and Creative Artists
Career Development Coaching for Writers and Creative Artists
The Richmond Green Practice is the centre of my Career Development work for writers and creative artists. I am an Associate of the Practice and from here I run individual sessions to enable you to get absolutely clear on how you can develop a career as a creative individual or professional writer. This is an exclusive face-to-face coaching service. However, for those unable to attend the practice, Career Development is also available by telephone.Literary Consultancy is also available on the Green.
The Practice, founded by Alexandra Chalfont is perfect for writers seeking time and space to focus on their creative work and their professional development. It is just three doors up from Virginia Woolf's first home in Richmond-upon-Thames and the Consultancy Room overlooks the Green from the second floor window. The Richmond Practice is truly 'A Room of One's Own', a calm environment where you can focus on your writing life.
I focus here on Career Development for Writers and you can book your appointment by enquiring here or using one of the buttons below. A single session costs £95. This covers a one-hour career development session (or a one hour life-coaching session). For October and November only, I am also including a bonus 30 minutes 'coffee shop' time for each session booked, so after the session we can go out together and relax and talk informally about your new plans over a cup of tea or a latte.
I am based at the Richmond Green Practice on Tuesdays (but other days can be arranged by appointment) and you can book your appointment here.
Services offered at the Richmond Green Practice
I offer three services at the Richmond Green Practice: The Career Development package; the Literary Consultancy package and the Advanced Creative Writers' Group (currently full). These services are outlined below.Career Development for Writers
The Career Development Service is designed to give writers a space in which to focus on their professional career - both as a writer and a creative individual. Our intention is to allow you space to get clear on your own professional development. We look at your writing work, including submissions to agents and publishers, but we also look at other aspects of your career as a creative individual. We consider ideas for creative businesses, income streams, marketing and promotion, creative opportunities, out-of-the-box ideas and personal and professional growth. At the end of each session, you will have an action plan for development and I can be here to support you through that process. In particular we look at how your creative work is balanced with your need making a living - and where there are possibilities for bringing creativity and prosperity together. We consider your personal circumstances, your goals and often in the coaching unexpected opportunities emerge. I encourage you to move beyond your comfort zone and to consider new possibilities. Together we make a clear plan for your career as a writer and creative individual.
In addition, during October and November, we have a half hour 'coffee shop' time together at the end of each session, to chill out and discuss the possibilities ahead.
All sessions include follow-up email support.
If you are interested in Career Development but cannot come to Richmond Green, please fill in the Contact Form here. I also coach from the British Library and by telephone.

Literary Consultancy
Are you a writer seeking an informed opinion on your work? Are you preparing for submission to agents and publishers, but in need of constructive feedback and editing advice? The Richmond Green Practice is a perfect environment for Literary Consultancy work. I only take on a limited number of literary consultancy clients at present. All clients I work with receive my full personal attention. I read your manuscript, annotate it and make editorial suggestions. I follow up this reading with a full meeting (one hour for work up to 100 pp and two hours for work longer than that) where I give honest, incisive and constructive feedback that will enable you to take your work to the next level. In the meeting, we also cover the market-readiness of the work and advice on synopses and agent submissions.
The fees for in-person literary consultancy on the Green are identical to the usual written report service fees. Essentially, the meeting is an alternative to the written report. After the meeting, I remain available by email if you have any further queries about the work.
In addition, I offer one service which is exclusive to The Richmond Green Practice, which is the Agent/publisher submission meeting. I read up to 50 pages of your work (generally your synopsis and 3 sample chapters). Then, instead of the short report/one hour meeting that is normal for the usual '50 pages' service, I offer the two hour meeting, so that we can cover not only feedback but also a detailed discussion about your writing career and how to take it to the next level, including self-promotion/agent-publisher relations, confidence, time management and productivity.
I call this service "A Room of One's Own".
| A Room of One's Own Package: £295 |
Includes reading and annotating 50 pages of double-spaced 12pt manuscript and a two hour meeting at the Richmond Green Practice. |
Advanced Creative Writers' Group
The Advanced Creative Writers' Group is now full.
This group will be limited to four members and is aimed at writers who have been working seriously for at least a year and already have some experience of giving and receiving feedback on their work.
The group will meet once a month at The Richmond Green Practice from 10am-1pm on the following dates:
Tuesday 8th September 2009
Tuesday 6th October 2009
Tuesday 3rd November 2009
If you cannot make these dates but are interested in the group, please do get in touch as there may be some flexibility.
During each meeting, all four members of the group will have an opportunity to read work aloud, prior to receiving constructive feedback from myself and the group. (Or, work may be read in advance of the session.)
The work we do together will be conducted in a safe and supportive environment and I will be meeting with prospective group members individually in advance of the first session, to ensure that those who are accepted for the group are serious about their writing work and ready to be constructive and positive in their approach to the work of others.
In addition, all members of the group will have a private one hour one-to-one in-person session with me during the course of each month. This will include additional personal feedback on revisions of work initially submitted to the group. Here, you can discuss your work and all aspects of your writing life. There will also be a private Yahoo Group available for group discussion between sessions. And a monthly group drinks meeting in Richmond-upon-Thames at a mutually convenient date.
Fee for the Advanced Creative Writers' Group is: £450.
This can be paid in three monthly installments of £150.
This monthly fee covers: one monthly group meeting at the Richmond Green practice;a one-to-one session with me at The Green each month; connection with the group via a private Yahoo group; a monthly group drinks meeting.
The fee also include my reading of additional pages of your work outside the group sessions - limited to 25 pages (double spaced 12pt font) per session. This will generally be work that is a revision of work discussed in the group.
If you would like to be considered for the Advanced Creative Writers' Group please contact me here to set up an initial meeting. I look forward to meeting you.
